CHEF LAURA
Founded in 2003, Chefs For A Day and Chef Laura Valcour began implementing hands-on cooking programs for Kindergarten
through 8th grade for local schools. Her work earned the prestigious Illinois State Board of Education "Those Who Excel
Award of Excellence" for her contribution in promoting nutrition education. Under her leadership, School District #180
was awarded a $10,000 grant from INET (Illinois Nutrition and Education Training) towards developing a healthy school
lunch environment.
Chef Laura is a graduate of the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago (Le Cordon Bleu Program). She combines over
25 years experience in restaurants, catering, and cooking instruction with schools, scout programs, group or private
instruction as well as corporate healthy living events.
For the past 9 years, Chef Laura created hundreds of kids and adult cooking programs for the Burr Ridge Park District as well as
coordinating the food activities for their seasonal events. Chef Laura was also the Burr Ridge Farmer Market Coordinator and continues as consultant for the market.

Co-owner of Chefs For A Day, Ruby is a successful entrepreneur. A deep seeded faith in both God and living a healthy
lifestyle guide Ruby in her every day life. As a survivor of breast cancer, Ruby knows that life’s greatest moments are those
when you triumph over adversity.
Hair stylist by day, Ruby’s first passion is running the day-to-day operations as owner of Matthew Alexander Salon in
Westmont, IL. Licensed in cosmetology, Ruby is also trained in advanced education, business, marketing, real estate and has
a certification in special education.
Ruby is the loving mother of two boys, and a dear friend to business partner- Laura Valcour. Together, they’ve launched
Chefs For A Day. According to Ruby “investing in my friend and her dream to inspire other’s lives through health and
wellness is an easy decision.”
